NMC SPECIALIST PRACTICE IN A/E

“I commenced my nurse training as a general nurse in 1986 in The Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast. Following registration I worked as a staff nurse for one year in general surgery and eighteen years in Accident and Emergency as a staff nurse, junior sister, senior sister and Lead Nurse.

These roles required me to be an expert practitioner in the delivery of high quality emergency care to the patient. This expertise was underpinned by academic and professional qualifications and ongoing professional development.

I am an Emergency Nurse Practitioner and clinical teacher. In my Lead Nurse role I worked with the ethos of promoting a safe environment for the patients through development of robust clinical governance policies. I feel effective communication from grass roots to strategic levels is a fundamental aspect of quality patient care.

I have had valuable experience at high levels in the health service enabling me to value the importance of excellent skills in communication, privacy, dignity and patient experience. I endorse excellence in clinical competence and if procedures are not followed the importance of taking remedial action to improve patient care.

Due to family reasons, I left nursing in 2007, however, I have since returned. I undertook Return To Practice course at The University of Ulster in 2013 and currently work as Bank Staff in The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.”
